Henry Short was born 1845 in Virginia. He died 1900 in Haywood County TN. He was the son of Silla Short (1813-1883). His sibling was Alonzo Short (1855-1940).

Henry Short's wife was Louise Miller. They had six known children named Tennessee Short (1864-?), Roxie Short (1867-1925), Susie Short (1869-?), Mary Short (1872-?), Josephine Short (1876-1939), and Luella Short (1879-1964).
